Lifeskills
A large part of our program is aptly called 'Life Skills.' Our clients most often come to us with a history of distancing themselves from the morals and values of greater society. Addiction often handicaps the person from being able to apply these morals and values in their everyday behavior. Our life skills regimen is designed to put our clients back in touch with the benefits of living morally and having high values. Morals such as unselfishness, belonging to a community, doing for others, are incorporated into the program through the use of daily responsibilities and being held accountable for care of the grounds, living spaces and common areas. Our clients begin to see the value of service to others and the importance of daily discipline, which is so necessary for long-term recovery. They gain benefits to themselves when they take pride in how healthy their environment looks and feels. They also learn a sense of accomplishment and improved self-worth by working within and for a larger community.
A few of the other areas that fall under the category of life skills that we re-acquaint our clients with are etiquette, time management, effective listening, managing change, financial sobriety, budgeting and a host of others. These are all taught in the framework of recovery so that our clients can directly begin applying them and learn how to use them in daily life. Our approach is personalized for each client, depending on what skills they do and don't have to reinforce or develop. Our staff is creative in expanding the care given to our clients in these areas, shifting if necessary depending on the immediate needs of the client. In treating the whole person, our life skills regimen has proven a very effective tool in returning the addict to complete health emotionally, physically and spiritually.
